Artist Statment: "With a strong, ever present respect for the up-tempo British Modern Soul Scene of the late 1970's and the House Music movement of the Paradise Garage, I find myself carrying a historic torch and up-most discipline for playing all things up-tempo, quality, and most of all Soulful." JJ Lopez aka Soul Boy '74.
Bio: JJ Lopez aka Soul Boy '74 has been a Disc Jockey since 1995. He has played on the Texas Soul and House Music scene, consistently for the last 11 years. With a strong ever present knowledge of 70's Soul, Disco and Garage, his DJ sets are are always both a history lesson and uplifting. His mastery of replicating traditional DJ techniques of the 70's, allow him and the dancer to fully experience what it was like to dance to a true Soul or Disco DJ of that era.
Locally: He was head Friday night resident Disc Jockey at the Davenport Lounge located in downtown San Antonio Tx for 5 years. Currently he can be heard playing various club nights around San Antonio. He is a Disc Jockey for YA San Antonio, a Youth Advocacy orginization located in Houston TX. He is also a Music Business student at San Antonio College and is currently pursuing Music History and Business. JJ Lopez is available for lectures, presentations, and discussion panels regarding the History of Soul Music within Disc Jockey Culture.
